Revd Rob Dewing

St Mary Magdalen Sheet is an Anglican village church with a big heart, drawing its congregation from all over Petersfield. We are a mix of people of all ages who come together from Sheet and beyond to worship God week by week. What we share is a knowledge that God loves each of us, has forgiven us and gives us new life.

Our worship reflects our diversity, with lively services aimed at all ages, contemporary Parish Eucharists and more traditional services. We have a strong emphasis on prayer, meeting together and exploring the ministry of healing.

When people speak of St Mary Magdalen it seems that they say one of three things.

Isn’t it a lovely church?
St Mary Magdalen is a Victorian country church in design and sits in the middle of the Village of Sheet on the edge of the town of Petersfield. It is a lovely building to which many are very attached. We have a wonderful team of people who care for it and the surrounding garden and our Fabric Committee and the Friends to Sheet Church work hard to make sure that it continues in good repair. However, when I am at my most mischievous and people comment on how lovely St Mary’s is, I respond ‘yes they are.’ Because as wonderful as it is to have such a fine building to worship in, there is more to us than meets the eye and the Church is about much more than the building.

People are very Welcoming
I am proud of the reputation that St Mary’s has of being a welcoming church and we try to work hard to make sure that people who do join us are made to feel at home with us. Apart from the warmth of our welcome to services we have many opportunities for people to gather in fellowship through after church coffee, our fifth Sunday Friendship Lunches, our midweek House Groups and other occasional social events. But this is not to say that we are all the same…

It’s very Diverse
One of the defining features of St Mary Magdalen is the range of styles of worship that we share in. On any Sunday you may find a service from the Book of Common Prayer, a contemporary language Parish Communion with choir and organ, an All Age Service led by a band, a healing service or Café Church. In part this is to give almost everybody a style of worship which they can enjoy, but it also comes from a conviction that the Holy Spirit is at work through all these expressions of Christian worship and that we learn something new of God in each of them.

This is just a little of who we are. Why don’t you come and join us in
